Statistics on Realtors and Technology – Source: 2009 Realtor Technology Survey

1. The typical Realtor spent up to $1,200 on technology for real estate purposes in 2008.

• We don’t like to think about how much we spend keeping our technology and software on the cutting edge, but it really pays off for our customers. We’ve got the average Realtor beat by a long shot in this department.

2. The top three tools that respondents plan on purchasing in the next year are: smartphone with email/Internet connection (42%); notebook/laptop (34%), and digital camera (26%).

• Not sure how any Realtor has been in business these days without all of these working together!

3. The most frequently used operating system is Windows XP (63%).

• Ocean Rock Properties uses Mac Pro’s, Mac Book Pro’s with the latest operating systems offered by Apple computers. To most everyone’s surprise, our Mac’s also run the latest version of Windows which is Windows 7 without rebooting! If we have a need to cross over, it just works! Ah, yes, we do have a few PC’s running XP also if needed.

4. The most popular smartphones are Blackberry (32%), Palm Treo (14%), and iPhone (10%).

• The way we integrate our iphone’s into our business is top secret! Apple is consistently the most forward thinking provider of various computer devices, as a customer you will appreciate the time we save you by understanding this.

5. 84% of REALTORS® use social media to some extent.

• We have a Facebook, but it’s no where near the center of our attention!

6. The top places where REALTORS® place their listings are REALTOR.com, their broker’s website, their local MLS site, and their own website.

• We have found that Realtor.com really isn’t that great compared to other national real estate websites.
