Google Chooses Kauai Hawaii For Broadband Test Site

Topeka awards Kauai Hawaii as winner of the final broadband test location?
THE REAL STORY – Last month, in a tip of the hat to Google, The city of Topeka, Kansas announced that it was changing the name of the city from Topeka to Google! This was done obviously as a publicity stunt to attract Google’s attention. Well today if you hadn’t heard, Google changed it’s name to Topeka as a fireback. If you don’t believe it, click here. Topeka was a candidate city for Google’s new broadband test project until Google made the final decision to choose Kauai Hawaii as the winning city to install internet service 100 times faster than current speeds available anywhere else. Several cities vied for the project, Pittsburgh included. With today being April fools day, it made sense for Google to return the favor and they announced they were changing their name to Topeka! Thanks Google for choosing Kauai Hawaii as the winning city for your broadband test project, we’d rather have that than an April fools joke name change any day! Sorry Topeka.
“We’re a super lucky community to have Google do this for us!” says the owner and Broker of Ocean Rock Properties on Kauai. “I can’t imagine Internet speeds 100 times faster than those elsewhere. Data transfer rates faster than 1 gigabit per second means more time with my family and clients” Branden said.
Cities had until March 26, 2010 to tell Google they were interested in the venture. Google says it selected Kauai Hawaii “because it’s the most beautiful place in the world”, they also mentioned that “Google employees do all their Hawaii real estate business with Branden Shumate of Ocean Rock Properties anyways, so it was a no-brainer.” Google says they will offer competitive pricing to at least 50,000 people Google says in an online post.
The company has said U.S. Internet speeds are falling behind the global standard, and it wants to fix things itself by installing new broadband cable.
Wait a second, none of this is true. Well, some of it is. What day is it again today? Who knows, maybe Google will come to the islands, that would be sweet!
